What does Libratto mean?

Nothing. It’s a modification of the Italian “libretto” which means “little book.” I originally came up with the name when planning for a website for healthcare professionals that would consolidate information from multiple journals. After that, it became the name of a start-up focused on managing expressions of interest across multiple Internet-capable devices. The start-up ran smack dab into the Internet bubble; fortunately, we hadn’t taken any investor money. Now it’s home to my thoughts about science, medicine and health.

Who is Bob Nease?

I spend my time in both the academic and corporate worlds. I am Chief Scientist and Vice President of Marketing at Express Scripts, one of the country’s largest pharmacy benefits management companies. In that role, I work to understand and apply what we’re all learning about human behavior (cognitive and social psychology, behavioral economics, linguistics, and cognitive neuroscience) to effect change at the individual level.

Prior to joining Express Scripts, I was Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis, and Assistant Professor of Community and Family Medicine at Dartmouth Medical School. I received my PhD in Engineering-Economic Systems from Stanford University a very long time ago. I am past president of the Society for Medical Decision Making, have served on multiple study sections, and am a reviewer for a number of professional journals. In addition to my work at Express Scripts, I currently hold adjunct appointments in Internal Medicine at the Washington University Medical School and at the School of Public Health at St. Louis University.
